What is RefWorks?

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management program that allows you to:

Automatically generate a bibliography or reference list in over 200 styles including commonly used styles like APA and MLA.

Import references or citations from a wide variety of bibliographic databases or input your references manually.

Organize your references into folders for different projects or papers.

Download Write 'N Cite to make bibliographies quicker and easier.

How did the Library get RefWorks?

The James A. Gibson Library has entered into a licensing agreement with the Ontario Council of University Libraries to provide all Brock students, faculty and staff access to RefWorks for free!

You will need to sign up for an individual account the first time you use RefWorks. (You will need to register with your Brock Email account.)

1. Use the Quick Start Guide (PDF format).

2. If you need help in person, visit the Research Help Desk in the Library.

Where do I find the Group Code?

When you register for your RefWorks account, you will receive an email with your username, password and Group Code. Keep this email. You will require the Group Code if you are using RefWorks or the Write-N-Cite plug-in from off-campus.

I don't have this email anymore. How do I get the Group Code?

Go to the RefWorks login page and click on the 'forgot your login?' link. Enter the email address that you used to create your RefWorks account and click 'submit'. A new email with the Group Code will be sent to you.

The Write 'N Cite Help Guide provides information on how to download a copy of the Write 'n Cite software to your computer and there are instructions on how to use it efficiently.
